Gwanda water situation a nightmare

Gwanda residents are paying a heavy price for the local authority’s failure to settle its ballooning debt to the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission Commission (ZETDC), with the power utility having now disconnected the water pumping system from the national power grid.

The residents are desperate and restless as they seek the precious liquid, which the MDC run municipality cannot provide despite payment of rates by the residents.

While the local authority is clueless on when residents will start accessing water from their taps ZINWA, which runs the water pumping system on behalf of council, is adamant that the municipality has to settle its debt.

Efforts to get a comment from ZESA Public Relations officer, Mr Shephard Mandizvidza were fruitless as his phone went unanswered.
