Violent clashes resurface in Gwanda

The National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) has expressed concern over the resurfacing of violent clashes among artisanal miners in Gwanda which are hampering government’s peace efforts.

As part of efforts to address violence that has permeated the small scale mining sector, the Zimbabwe Christian Alliance working with the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission established peace committees in 2018 to help resolve the conflict amicably.

However, recent reports of machete wielding gangs unleashing  fresh violence in the volatile mining area of Vova in Gwanda, has left the church and the NPRC worried.

Commissioner, Leslie Ncube who was speaking at a meeting to re- launch the churches convergence on conflict and peace initiative in Gwanda this Monday, called on the police to do more to bring sanity in the sector.

Zimbabwe Christian Alliance executive director, reverend Useni Sibanda also expressed concern over the continued reports of violence in the province.
