5000 prisoners to be released

Over 5000 prisoners will soon be released from the country’s prisons following the approval of a general amnesty by the cabinet meant to de-congest the country’s prison population.

Giving an update of the  5th post cabinet decisions matrix  to the media in Harare on Tuesday,  the Minister of  Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa said the amnesty  is  aimed at addressing operational challenges being faced  by the  Zimbabwe  prison services.

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Professor Amon Murwira said the recently held Zimbabwe, Botswana Bi-National Commission which was discussed by the cabinet, also set the tone for increased socioeconomic co-operation between the two countries.

The Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadiah Moyo also gave an update on the national preparedness and response regarding the Covid 19 outbreak.

 

The outcome of the 25th conference of parties cop 25, held in Madrid, Spain was also a key highlight of this week’s cabinet meeting, including updates of the recently held 2020 African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development in Victoria falls.
