2000 tonnes of wheat from Matobo district
Power and water supply challenges which have affected the country have not deterred some agricultural concerns from producing a bumper harvest with ARDA Antelope Estate in Matobo district having delivered over 2000 tonnes of wheat to the Grain Marketing Board ( GMB).
Despite a challenging 2019 winter wheat farming season characterised by power and water supply shortages, ARDA Antelope Estate in Maphisa of Matobo district managed to produce an average of six point five tonnes per hectare from the 511 hectares put under the wheat crop .
In an interview with the Khulumanifm news estate manager Mr Alec Chinyai said while the facility produced a good wheat crop , 120 hectares of sugar beans was written off owing to intermittent power supplies at the irrigation scheme .
Turning to the summer cropping season mr chinyai said 680 hectares will be dedicated towards soya bean production .
The estate has so far received inputs which include compound d fertiliser, seed and diesel through the command agriculture programme .
Meanwhile communal farmers in matobo district have started land preparation while the distribution of seed and fertiliser under presidential input programme has kicked off .
