New bread making centre for Bulawayo
A bread making centre has been unveiled in Bulawayo as part of local empowerment programmes meant to enable citizens to be directly involved in food production.
Whoever said “do not despise the day of small beginnings,” certainly had seen a lot. From a humble high density suburb at the Bulawayo war veterans offices, a project involving scores of people has taken off.
The former freedom fighters and other locals plan to make bread for their own consumption and for business.
Bulawayo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Hon Judith Ncube reminded those at the event that they have entered into a territory where they are in direct competition with traditional bread makers, the huge commercial companies.
With an average loaf now costing over 15 dollars, there is optimism, the drive will be a relief for many who have watched prices of basics hiked mercilessly by greedy huge monopoly companies.
