Command Agriculture registration on in Mat South province

The registration of farmers for the summer cropping season under the Command Agriculture   programme has begun in Matabeleland south.

However, the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement provincial agronomist Mr Innocent Nyathi said most potential farmers have failed to register for the Command Agriculture programme as they were unable to repay their loans owing to a devastating 2018 -2019 cropping season.

He encouraged farmers to stagger their planting, grow short season varieties and traditional grains in light of climate change.

Meanwhile, farmers in Matobo district say they have started land preparation for the summer cropping season so that they take advantage of the early rains.
