NUST questioned on student accommodation

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development has rebuked authorities at the National University of Science and Technology-Nust for failing to provide adequate student accommodation, almost 28 years after the institution was opened.

The National University of Science and Technology(NUST) was opened in 1991 and the institution has an enrollment of over seven thousand students.

However 20 years since its establishment, NUST only has managed to build hostels that accommodate just 156 students.

Members of the committee who toured the institution felt NUST has not done enough to ensure that more students have accommodation on campus.

The institution’s Vice Chancellor Professor Mqhele Dlodlo said they are working on a long-term solution to the challenge.
