People with disabilities cry foul over public transport
People living with disabilities especially wheelchair users among others cry foul over the unfriendly public transport environment which makes it difficult for them to access public buses.
Accessing public transport is usually wearisome as people queue for long hours not to mention the effort one has to put in just to board the bus as people now prefer the cheaper ZUPCO buses.
While the move by government to introduce cheap and affordable buses is greatly appreciated, accessing these public buses remains a nightmare for people living with disabilities especially those who walk on wheel chairs given the unfriendly design of the buses.
Most of the public transport in the country do not have wheelchair ramps and it is the hope for people with disabilities that this will be incorporated in the national disability policy that local buses are fitted with wheel chair ramps situated at the door of the bus to help people on wheelchairs to easily access public transport.
