“Peace begins with you …”
A call has been made for a paradigm shift in the country’s journey towards peace to achieve the desired results.
NPRC commissioner, Lesley Ncube says lack of adequate resources is one of the major hindrances to the goals of the commission as they have only one active office in Harare with a staff compliment of 30 which falls far short of the required workforce of more than 100.
Another issue that has also been raised is the involvement of women and children in peace building initiatives as they are the most affected during such conflicts, with the acting chairperson for the thematic committee on human rights, honourable Tsitsi Muzenda driving the point home.
However the acting chairperson for the portfolio committee on Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, honourable Dexter Nduna, challenged all institutions charged with peace building initiatives to implement all laid down strategies as failure has turned out to be the biggest impediment.
