Chief Justice Malaba speaks on corruption

Chief Justice Luke Malaba says public office bearers need to be conscious of the need to balance between national objectives and their selfish desire for personal gain, with the latter leading to corruption.

Jutsice Malaba says corruption has been taking firm roots over a long period, and has become too strong to break overnight.

He said the scourge will be easily eradicated only when people internalise values of zero tolerance and understand that they are in office to serve the collective national objective, and not to pursue personal interests.

He noted that the only way to uproot corruption is to have measures that are sufficiently strong to attack it, and ensure there are high standards of integrity in those people who are supposed to fight corruption.

He was speaking in Chinhoyi shortly after a tour of the multimillion dollar provincial magistrates’ courts construction project.
