Gvt committed to nurturing and planting trees

Government says it’s committed to nurturing and planting trees in a bid to mitigate climate change induced environmental challenges.
In a speech read on her behalf by an official from Bulawayo Metropolitan province Pamela Phuthi to commemorate National Tree Planting day, Minister Judith Ncube urged communities to continue planting trees in their respective communities.
District conservator Mr Bekithemba Ngwenya says this year’s theme is “fruit trees for food security and nutrition’ and this year’s tree is African ebony, Umdlawuzo in Ndebele and Mushuma in Shona.
The leaves, roots bark and fruits of the tree contain antibiotic qualities and can be used to stop purging and to enhance fertility while the leaf decoction is used as a remedy for fever, otitis and wound dressing.
Ngwenya urged everyone to participate in tree planting and to make it a habit to plant trees whenever they get a chance especially during the rainy season.
