Adequate and functional fire fighting equipment needed in public buildings
In the after math of the Mpilo fire incident, managers of public buildings have been advised to insure safety and security of their premises by installing adequate fire equipment so as to safe guard occupants and property.
The Bulawayo fire brigade’s chief fire officer Mr Richard Peterson said it is imperative that public buildings are equipped with working fire horses, extinguishers and alternative exit passage in the event that there is a fire outbreak.
Following the Mpilo inferno it came to the attention of authorities that most fire management equipment in public buildings is absolute and has been ignored for years without being serviced.
This issue of neglect which could pass as an act of misconduct to the accounting officers of public institutions need a re look and instant redress.
