ED distributes proceeds from Republic Cup race

The President and patron of the Republic Cup Trust, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa has distributed the proceeds of this year’s Republic Trust horse race held on the 14th of July this year at the Borrowdale race course in Harare.

Considered the country’s richest horse race, the annual Republic Cup is organised to raise funds for charity to take care of the needy in the society.

Republic Cup Trust Founding Chairperson, Mr Kamal Khalfan said this year’s race raised some $200 000, adding that in the past, the trust’s charity work was affected by sanctions but they have managed to remain afloat and have soldiered on.

Mr Khalfan welcomed President Mnangagwa as the new patron of the trust which is celebrating 22 years of existence this year.

He recalled how founding member and now patron, Cde Mnangagwa has remained steadfast in supporting the work of the trust to enhance its charity work.

He also racalled how President Mnangagwa he has had many narrow escapes and how he has survived and remained a strong charity worker.

Recipients of the Republic Cup funds for this year were patron President Mnangagwa’s two charities in Kwekwe which got $20 000 each, Mount Saint Marys in Hwedza nominated by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and received $15 000, Tjinyunyi Babili Charity nominated by Cde Simon Khaya Moyo, Kukura Neshungu nominated by Cde Sydney Sekeramayi, Rekayi Tangwena Children’s Home and another to be nominated by FBC Bank CEO, Mr John Mushayavanhu.

The highest amount of $50 000 went to the Ministry of Health and Child Care to fight cholera epidemic.
