Redcross commits to refurbishment of the educational infrastructure

The Zimbabwe Redcross Society with its partners has committed one comma two million dollars towards the refurbishment of the educational infrastructure and improving disaster preparedness within Mangwe district over the next two years.
Through funding from the European Union under the humanitarian implementation programme, the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society with its partners launched the resilience through disaster response management and cash preparedness and schools safety programme in Mangwe district.
The programme follows the realisation that the education sector in the district has been the worst affected by disasters amid revelations that at least 15 schools were completely destroyed by hailstorms and strongs winds last year alone.
Redcross director of operations Mr Karikoga Kutadzaushe said the programme which includes disaster education among learners will also witness the construction of model schools in the district.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary education welcomed the programme saying it will strive to cascade the initiative to other district given the devastating impact of disasters in the province every year.
