Vic Falls oppose imposition of mayor

Victoria Falls residents have spoken against the imposition of candidates in the upcoming mayoral elections after it emerged that all the elected 11 Councillors were summoned to a caucus meeting in Hwange meant to dictate who they should vote for.

The residents said the imposition of mayoral candidates citing that it go against democratic values.

The chairperson for the Combined Victoria Residents Association, Mr Morgan Dube noted that it is disappointing that the 11 elected councillors were made to attend a meeting in Hwange to be lectured on the selection of the mayor.

“Councillors are policy makers who hold the right to appoint the mayor of their choice. Rumours have it that councillors are being forced to vote or support certain views. Victoria Falls will not be led by outsiders, we should be left to decide our own issues,” he said.

This comes after some Bulawayo councillors resisted the imposition of candidates for the mayoral position.
